Science and nature. Hi folks. Welcome to my channel. My name is Ray Ogilvie. I live in Hartsville SC. Hartsville is located on the edge of the Carolina Sandhills. It's a beautiful area that I enjoy exploring. I love science and nature and archeology. This site is dedicated to those subjects. It also contains some of my original music. I enjoy many styles of music and use many different styles in my writing. I hope you'll visit often. Thanks for watching!
The Man Who Would Be King
Tom Davidson on lead guitar and base. Ray Ogilvie on rhythm guitar. Vocals by Ray Ogilvie. Written by Ray Ogilvie.
Some men dream of being king. I always dreamed of being a super hero. But there are those who are attracted to the power of a king. I never thought it was a good life choice. I'm sure some kings have been well liked. But a lot are not liked at all. It just seems like the kind of life that could lead to unhappiness.

2024 Partial Solar Eclipse And Colander Effect
Переглядів 1923 місяці тому
The April 8, 2024 solar eclipse was only partial in Hartsville, SC. But it was still pretty cool. I tried a trick I've read about where you let the sun's light pass through a colander. It creates lots of little images of the sun on the ground. In this case it created a lot of mini solar eclipses.
Rule The Ashes (a song about the fall of democracy and freedom)

Lead guitar and bass by Tom Davidson. Rhythm guitar and vocals by Ray Ogilvie. Written by Ray Ogilvie. “An evil man will burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes.” This quote is generally attributed to the Chinese philosopher, Sun Tzu. Although some question if he really said it, the truthfulness of the quote is hard to question. Anyone familiar with human nature will likely see...
How To Spot The Starlink Satellites

Got a pretty good shot of the Starlink satellites last night. I've been using a web site called, See A Satellite Tonight to spot them. The web site is managed by James Darpinian. He does an excellent job of telling you when and where to look to see them. Here is a link to the web site if you want to try it out. james.darpinian.com/satellites/

Tom Davidson on lead guitar, bass and harmonica. Ray Ogilvie on rhythm guitar. Vocals by Ray Ogilvie. Written by Ray Ogilvie. A song about a vigilante, a hero, a madman, a man wrestling with his own dark thoughts; a man that any of us could be at some time in our lives. I managed to find some great photos and art work for this video. Here they are in order of appearance. 1. A street in Tokyo, J...
A Young Polyphemus Caterpillar Looks Very Different From The Older Ones

This is a young caterpillar of a Polyphemus moth. I like it's colors even more than the older caterpillars. The picture of the older Polyphemus caterpillar is attributed to Mark S Lindamood. Big thanks to Tea Montagna for helping me ID this caterpillar.

Classic Sci-Fi Images (featuring the song, Hypothetical Man by Ray Ogilvie)
Переглядів 627Рік тому
Tom Davidson on lead guitar and bass. Ray Ogilvie on Rhythm guitar. Vocals by Ray Ogilvie. Written by Ray Ogilvie. The song is about a man who has come to question many of the things he believes. It's something many of us have done at times. I used a lot of pictures of robots for this video because robots are a lot like men and yet very different from men. I also just like robots. Sci-Fi, Robot...

Male Pileated Woodpecker Making His Classic Call
Переглядів 993Рік тому
Every time I hear this call it makes me think of some far away jungle. But this is right here in the US. This is a male pileated woodpecker. The male has a red streak in the corner of his mouth. The female also has a streak in the corner of her mouth but it's black. He makes the call just one time at about 40 seconds into the video. For the rest of the video he just hangs out in the tree lookin...

Thank you very much! The lead guitar here was played my friend, Tom Davidson. He is an excellent guitar player and I am very lucky to have him playing on my songs. Tom is also a songwriter. If you're interested in hearing some of his original music check out this link. ua-cam.com/channels/CKRdO3la0CbqWJ0HrkjQEg.html
Lovely song Ray! I assume you've been told how much you sound like Ian Tyson ... have you? This is a high compliment, at least in my books! Love the feel and the vocal. Mike
Thank you very much! I definitely take that as a compliment!
a great upload !!
Thank you very much!
You are King of your own castle! That is better than any other type! Nice song. Excellent collaboration! Best wishes!
Thank you very much!
Some used to winter over in North Louisiana ( as well as some whip poor will) near our place. loved stilling out and listening to them.
King? Not for me. Too stressful and complicated🤣. Great song and fantastic performances/production. Super cool 👍👍
Thank you very much!
A beaut of a song and a song for our times. Ray, all is all all all perfect here. Bravo to you both. Linda
Thanks Linda!
Very good job Ray I’ve Subscribed!
Thank you!
Yeah, after making it to two minutes... Those concretions have been worked into bear heads also. I know, I'm sounding crazy, lol. Probably gonna make a couple more comments by the end, 😅
"and deposits these minerals" the around 50 second mark when you said that, you were on top of an artifact. Notice the jawline like a left side face profile from slightly behind? I bet if you go back and grab that one, the artwork in it will blow your mind.
Your concretion is bear head... Notice his eye and snout is chiseled on both sides. Bet he'd look really good in the right light source.
Thank you!
@@jbojm9 it will blow your mind when you understand the patterns, and learn to read them, but most stones have the bear story in them. And when I say most, I mean if I walk outside right now and pick up a random rock, 50 percent chance it's gonna have at least two bear faces, possibly up to 20, and a world of other secrets... Many other animals, but the bear seems to be the most common. A lot come with like a beaver or muskrat too. Faces of the people... Most people have 'artifacts' that they have no idea how to use. Like it's a broken ax or something, when really it's broke right there cause it's an ear for a bear... Or eye... Or face... Whatever. Anywho, ✌️ Take some of your whatever rocks you got that look like they have a jawline, wash em gently, and after they dry, take em inside and play with different angles with shadow. If you can use candle/fire light. Take every face, and flip it upside down and all around... Do this to every face. Look for images in the shadows, within the rock, and as a whole. Look for animals and faces... If you do this, your mind will be blown. Your bear heads probably have stories too, but until you learn to read the stones with a more obvious rock to learn the glyphs, it will be very difficult. But... I guarantee that there is a little bear that climbs a mountain and jumps off... Again those bumpy ones take some practice to read, but once you learn, you can find some really cool stuff. ✌️
WoW! That’s Awesome! Have a great week!
Thank you!
Wonderful performance and singing ! Also great pictures ! Big like from me :-)) Karen

Ive never searched for anything other than knapped artifacts but now Im finding quite a lot of hammerstones and grinding/polishing tools thanks to channels like yours. Keep em comin!
Wow its nice..yes the man is the king and the women is the queen
Thank you!
What an awesome song! You're obviously a multi-talented dude 👏 Love the vibe, too. But yeah, we'll let somebody else be the king. Too much downside for our particular personalities 😁
Thank you very much! I agree. I don't think being king would be for me.
So cute.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome song Ray and Tom!!
Thank you very much!
Ôi chú rắn to và nhìn sợ quá ,bạn đêm ra ngoài mà dẫn chân phải là nguy hiểm quá 😮.

Underneath the house, lol
I went to a lake and on the table was this caterpillar, I have a rash and hope it doesn’t get any worse 😢
Oh no! I haven't been stung by one of these. But I was stung by a saddleback caterpillar which is similar. It stung and I had a rash. But it only lasted a day for me. I hope everything turns out OK for you! Thanks for watching!
Fantastic song!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks Ray.
Thanks for watching!
Sad and lovely song sir. Tom introduced me to your music and I really enjoy it (I also like the nature videos 👍).
Thank you!
Very nice tune 👍
Thank you very much!
Vauum keeps saying the robot is not on the ground..Tikom
Yours is different from mine. But I suspect for it to know it's on the ground it must be able to sense pressure on the wheels or have sensors that can see the ground. If it has sensors connected to the wheels they could be bad or there may just be trash around the wheels interfering with the sensors. If it has sensors that see the ground they may be bad or just dirty. This is just a guess.
Thanks for this interesting video, Ray. I won't be hunting for arrowheads any time soon but if I'm ever in the States I'd like to have a look. 🇦🇺
Thanks for watching!
I have mullein in my yard. Doing a little research and found this video. Guess what??? I'm from Hartsville SC!! Small world
Hi neighbor! Thanks for watching! I hope the video was helpful.
Good song, really enjoy
Thank you very much!
King isn't on my wish list! 👍👍👍
Agreed!
Great stuff I really enjoyed you guides on native american artifacts and arrowhead hunting ... question based on your own inference how many arrowheads alone would you say are out there and what's a rough estimate of how many a seasoned hunter can find? Appreciate the inspiring content.. it lends to being more attentive in life
Of course the number of arrowheads you find will depend on the population of native Americans who lived in the area. Some areas were more populated than others. But when I find disturbed dirt near almost any creek, I usually find flakes from stone tool making. The problem with finding arrowheads now is that the best spots have been picked over. It's hard to find a place that hasn't been searched. On top of that, farmers don't plow as much. But I suspect here in SC, there are still thousands of arrowheads.
@@jbojm9 hard to believe with all these small rivers/streams they've been picked over ...I might have to get out in the thick stuff this fall .. like Blacks creek ...Sandhills? I'm gonna give it my best effort .. I've been finding evidence just no heads.. thanks
I did not want to stand next to this snake. I decided to walk into a different direction.
Well, don't let your toad out for a walk 😆😂🤣! Cool and interesting! 👍👍
Thank you!
The ones I used to hear in Northeast Arkansas in the early Fifties said "Chip out of the white oak." They sounded more different from whippoorwills than your bird there. We had bobwhites, too.
Which one does the calling? Male or female?
From what I've read it is mostly the male that does the calling. My understanding is the female can call but doesn't do it often and when she does the call is weak.
Thank you. I found 1 on my wisteria today.
Yes there is a definite difference. We have Chuck Will's widows here. Back home they were whippoorwills. Wow! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Looks a good sized snake , nice looking too, interesting that they are resistant to toads , good video, atb 👍
He was a good size. I'm guessing around 30 inches. Thanks for watching!
I think I'll be scared if a snake comes out at home. Always be safe and careful. Thank you for your explanation of The Eastern Hognose Snake.👍👍15
Thanks for watching!
